Decolonizing Defense, 515 Portage Ave. 3pm

Just a reminder that the Decolonizing Defense Talking Circle will be happening at 515 Portage Ave. at 3pm TODAY (Sunday) and you are INVITED.

In case you forgot what it was about, here’s what’s up below: (plus details on how to get the audio/transcripts)

===> DECOLONIZING DEFENSE: <====

RADICAL CONVERSATIONS FOR
INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY SELF DEFENSE

What does community defense means to us? On the street, on reserve and on the land–how do we protect ourselves from violent institutions of colonization (police, CAS, government and corporate land theft, etc.) while struggling for interdependence on each other instead of reliance on state power and police?

What would a cross-territory defense network look like which centers on our traditional ways of being and where everyone has a role in the community, people living close to the land and close to the street?

How can we (or should we) extend copwatching strategies to adapt them as tools for educating street and gang involved youth? How do we engage all our people in collective defense against the threats we are all facing together?

***FOR NON-NATIVE ALLIES****
This space is intended for Native voices, please respect this and critically reflect on your power/privilege and reasons for coming to the circle before occupying space here. Non-native allies are welcome to listen as respectful visitors in our empowered territories.

AUDIO RECORDING and COPIES OF THE TRANSCRIPT

Please remember that we’d like to do an audio recording of this talking circle so that the ideas and conversations can be shared with the many, many people who have said “Hey, this should happen where I live too!”
So if you wanna protect your privacy, don’t use your colonial (english) name and don’t say shit you don’t want to be heard/read by people you don’t know.

For people who can’t be there in person, the audio will be posted on:

http://www.ndnmedia.wordpress.com and its sister-archive site,
http://www.teachthestreets.wordpress.com

ALSO, we’ll be working on transcribing it to go into a free publication that’s coming out in August. Get in touch if you want copies and we’ll get them to you, or if you can, check out the audio.

Decolonization=Revolution!!
(thanks to a bro for this one!)
